On Wednesday, I jumped ahead on my Island Trails project without showing you steps 1 & 2. This is due to me skipping ahead without totally completing them, so naughty! I had an unexpected day off yesterday, so heaps of projects were completed. 5 loads of laundry {washed, dried, folder, hung, and put away}, dead rat cleaned off porch, porch disinfected, dishes done, unclogged master shower drain {with wire hook…yes, i’m a badass!}, cleaned the bathroom, made a yummy lunch for the kiddos, and finished step 1 & 2. Did I mention I had all 4 of my kids at home too? I even managed to fit in 1 recorded show of “Say Yes to the Dress” and had dinner ready by 5:30 when the Mr. came home. It was a honest miracle! At 9:30 pm, I had more energy than usual. I swear having a desk job from 8-4 everyday does nothing but help me get chubbier every year and completely wear me out for no good reason. I need to figure out a way to incorporate more movement into my day. It really helps me in the energy department! Okay, back to steps 1 & 2.
1. Cut Out the Big Island of Hawaii {bought a LARGE map}
2. Applique Island
{onto? ive bought a gorgeous turquoise waterish looking fabric…but is it too literal?}
This is the island’s reverse side, which is outlined with lite steam a seam. It’s impossible to place it around the perimeter perfectly. I keep it as close as possible and then trim off the excess after ironing into place. Next, I iron into place and then zig zag stitched around the island.
And there you have it, the BIG island. Truth be told, I am very uncomfortable about the brightness of the turquoise back ground. Yet, I’m sort of excited about it. Here’s my take on it: When this has happened in the past, it seems to be the feeling of being pushed outside of my comfort zone that makes me nervous. In the end, I’m delighted and wowed. Now to the other extreme: When everything seems to be flowing nicely and oh so perfect, I find myself bored with the end result. Not always. But it has happened. I’ve decided to go with the electric turquoise and make it work in a way that the quilt would never have been the same without it. Yup, that’s the plan!
In other news, I’ve located transfer paper at our local fabric shop. It’s a SHOCK! Hope it’s what I need…it’s experimenting time for step 4!
