Archive for June, 2011

I actually finished this quilt in the beginning of February this year.  Unfortunately, I sent if off to its new snuggler without taking pictures.  Note to self: NEVER AGAIN!  Thank goodness they sent me some pictures to post.  I’m sorry for the delay, but here it is.  The color combo is so vibrant and rich.  I love it!

Anna with Noodlehead inspired me to try this super handy and adorable gathered clutch.  I found her online tutorial in December of 2010.  At that time, I instantly thought of my girlfriend Amy’s birthday, which was that particular month.  So now that’s its June of 2011, is it belated or just early for this years birthday bash?  Shame on me for being so late!  How do these sweet projects get put on the back burner for so long?  Ugh, I hate that!  I’m in between quilt orders and it’s just the right time to catch up on some gifts.  Here’s the first out the door and gosh I loved sewing this clutch.  I’ll be making more for sure!

While I was picking fabric and getting ready to sew, I was hit with the amazement of how fabric can be paired, cut, and sew into something or anything for that matter.  I just find the whole creation of something new so special.  It can certainly be frustrating at times, but what a gift to sew.  Once upon another generation, that’s the way it worked.  Sewing was 2nd nature and a mandatory learn.  I think it’s unfortunate that just a handful of people have continued on the tradition.  And so grateful to those who share their experiences and expertise online.  I’ve learned more than I ever expected by reading and viewing quilting blogs.  This is so fun, isn’t it?

Interior: 2 credit card pockets & checkbook liner

So there’s my 1st go.  I’ll know what to fix the next go around.  Like not stitching to close to the zipper!  Can you say…CRAP!  Too close = zipper snags on the interior fabric.  Let me also note, I followed the tutorial exactly, but my interior fabric is a bit baggy.  I’ll work on that next time, but it’s cute yes?  I think so & I hope Amy does too.  She’s sure to crack up about my late present.  At least she knows I didn’t forget about her…that’s all I really care about.  I love that girl!

Happy {Majorly} Belated Birthday Amy!

All boy.  All sports.  Where’s all the sports fabric?  Is it just me, or are cute sports fabrics hard to come by?  I looked around locally and found only 2 that would work.  Online shops had just a few additional options, but they weren’t any better.  My first attempt at this quilt was a complete bust.  I mean really?  Probably the ugliest quilt I ever attempted to make.  Luckily, I figured that out after I finished all the squares…sigh!  Hooray to me for hanging in there.  I started over and do like the end result.  Since there weren’t many fabric choices, I opted to do a simple quilt.  It definitely works and I really like the letter jacket “G” for Gavin’s first initial.  I was going for that sporty look and I think it really works.  Gavin’s mommy wanted a quilt he could grow up with, so I left all the baby stuff out and kept it BIG BOY.  I hope they love it…
